What is the best money you spent in July?

How has your summer been going?

What is the best money you spent in July?
Published:

It’s been a hot, rainy, smoky summer, at least here in New York. I was happy to get a bit of a reprieve at the end of July when I went to Northern Michigan for a week with my family.

Northern Michigan is my happy place, and I look forward to the trip all year. It’s tough to beat a day spent on the lake, followed by some grilling and card games (usually Euchre, though this year we played a lot of Monopoly Deal) and a bonfire to cap off the day after the sun sets around 9:30 p.m.

I hadn’t seen my parents IRL since Christmas, so it was nice to spend some time with them, talking on the porch and making dinners together each night. And though I’m not a dog person, my sister’s Shiba Inu, Pikachu, is pretty cute, and we spent a lot of quality time together, too.

All that to say, the best money I spent this month was for my plane ticket and everything else involved in the trip. It takes a lot for me to want to travel these days, particularly by air, given how insanely expensive and inefficient everything has become. But we lucked out with our flights this time around, and despite a last-minute Airbnb cancellation, everything went smoothly.
