What do you refuse to spend money on?

Growing up, my family never ordered drinks when we went out to eat; it was water or bust. It wasn’t that we were forbidden to, necessarily, but my sister and I knew our dad didn’t like to spend money on sodas or juices. He always said they were way overpriced for what you got.

As an adult who pretty much always orders a glass of wine while dining out, I get what he meant. It really adds up! My bank account would probably be a lot better off if I channeled his frugality a little bit more.

These days, I might order drinks out, but some of the things he taught us have stuck. I never buy pre-cut fruits or vegetables, and I rarely buy name brand groceries or household products (unless they are on sale), something I know confuses my husband. I feel a little twinge of guilt any time I pay for water while out and about.

Everyone has those things, though, that they just can’t bring themselves to spend money on. What about you? What do you refuse to buy?
