My friend Natalie Gadbois has been on a truly inspirational journey over the past year, having quit her job in New York to travel around the world. She was generous enough to share the Argentinian leg of her journey with us, and I've been day dreaming about packing a bag and heading off to Buenos Aires ever since. (Don’t worry, Lindsey, I won't really do it!)
Throughout Natalie’s story, we converted the prices from Argentinian pesos to U.S. dollars. At the time of writing, the exchange rate was $1 U.S. dollar is worth $1,387.72 Argentine pesos, according to Visa’s exchange rate calculator.

The Buenos Aires Travel Guide
Last July I quit my job in New York, turned my apartment over to a friend, and put my stuff in storage. Since then I have been traveling, mixing long-term stays with short stints in places I’ve always wanted to visit.
This sort of travel is different from what I am accustomed to; when I was gainfully employed, travel was a week or two at a time, and I took a laissez-faire approach to budgeting. (When in Rome, literally.) Now, I need to be conscious about where and how I spend my time, and therefore my money.
After returning back home to the states for the holidays, I kicked off 2026 with three weeks in Buenos Aires. Here is how I stretched my dollar while still taking advantage of all the city has to offer.
Who went on the trip: Solo! This was phase two of an extended “Eat, pray, love” journey. I spent the autumn in Europe, and I chose to spend the winter in South America. I chose that destination so I could appreciate the summer weather down there and to save money in a less expensive place.
How long were you gone: I spent three months in South America, starting with three weeks in Buenos Aires.
What was your budget: $3,000 for the Buenos Aires leg of my travels. I booked my flight with Delta points, and my Airbnb was $1,064 for three weeks. I chose to attend a Spanish school during my time, which cost $891 for three weeks. The program was well worth it to me to improve my Spanish and make friends. It included 20 hours of instruction each week (four hours a day, five days a week) as well as weekly social activities like walking tours, wine nights, and a Friday barbecue.
