The Purse was founded, written, and edited by journalists. As such, we strive to produce everything we do as ethically as possible. We take this even more seriously because we are in the money and personal finance space, which can be ripe with abuse and misleading advice.
We work hard to ensure that all of our information is accurate, fair, and thorough, and that we always act with integrity. That said, The Purse is not a “news” outlet; the tone and content are driven by the judgement and interests of Lindsey and Alicia. As such, not everything we produce will reflect every point of view or be appropriate for every net worth.
Nothing we write is intended to be viewed as explicit financial or tax advice, as we are not licensed financial professionals. The information on this website is for informational and recreational purposes only. We will never recommend specific investments (such a specific stock or other asset) outside of general discussions about asset classes and diversification, and only for illustrative purposes. If we do discuss an investment that we have a stake in, we will disclose it.
The Purse is a for-profit venture, but we will never covertly take money in exchange for content or promotion without it being clearly labeled and defined. We strive to be transparent about any third-party sponsorships or paid promotions.
We will accept sponsorships from businesses we have vetted and believe are in line with our own ethics and editorial vision, at our discretion. We will not promote products or services that we do not believe are actually useful for our audience.
The Purse is interested in telling women’s money stories. Everything we do is in service to that goal.
We strive, to the best of our abilities, to publish factual information on women’s finances. We support the open exchange of ideas, but we reserve the right to delete comments that are unnecessarily cruel or malicious, at our discretion.
We will occasionally make mistakes. We aim to fix them as quickly as possible and be transparent in our corrections.
At the end of the day, we are human, and we are doing the best we can to earn and maintain reader trust, which is our most important goal. This code of ethics will be updated as our company grows and we learn. We hope our audience, advertisers, and contributors understand that we are always striving to do our best and have nothing but good intentions.
