What to expect

Most weekdays, we publish stories on The Purse, and we send a newsletter twice a week. Readers have come to know and love our signature franchises: Home Economics, Division of Labor, 30 Something, and What It Cost Me. (And soon, Work History!) On Fridays, we publish a weekly roundup that includes an essay about the latest economic news put into the context of our daily lives.

Lindsey and Alicia also regularly wax poetic on all manner of topics related to women, money, and culture. And you can find deeply-reported how-tos and guides on various financial topics on The Purse.

We aim to be your go-to source for personal finance news, insights, and advice. Have a story idea? Drop us a line at hello [at] the purse [dot] co (not com!).

Free subscribers get access to all new posts and the 2026 archive.

Paid subscribers get a bonus edition of Home Economics every month, first dibs and discounts to special events, entry into our monthly giveaways, and access to monthly financial how-tos and guides, travel guides, and the entire archive dating back to June 2023.

Founding members get a nifty Purse-branded sweatshirt and our undying gratitude (and if you’re in NYC, we’ll take you out for a coffee).

Our Story

We met at CNBC Make It in 2019, where Lindsey was the deputy managing editor and Alicia was a senior money reporter. It was love at first pitch meeting. We continued our professional relationship at Fortune, where we launched the Success vertical and produced all manner of personal finance and career content. Over the years, we’ve bonded over our love of telling real peoples’ money stories—and spending a little too much on clothes.

Lindsey left Fortune in the spring of 2023 to launch The Purse. Alicia joined full-time in September 2025. We are very happy to work together again—and we have a lot (maybe too many?) ideas for the site!

Lindsey and Alicia are happy to bring you real women's money stories!

Who is Lindsey

I’ve been writing about women and money for more than a decade. I was the founding editor of Refinery29 Money Diaries, and I wrote the eponymous book and hosted the podcast. I’ve held leadership roles at Refinery29, CNBC, and Fortune, where I worked with amazing teams of reporters who primarily wrote about personal finance and careers. In 2023, I decided to throw caution to the wind and quit my full-time job to launch The Purse. I’m also studying to become a certified financial planner.

I live in Brooklyn with my cute kid (aka Freddy, not his real name) and my husband, Ken, who edits all these newsletters. If you find a typo or errant comma though, it’s because I added something after his final review.

Who is Alicia

I’ve been a personal finance/economics/business reporter for over a decade, most recently at Fortune, but also CNBC, Lifehacker, Money Magazine, and Forbes. I have also written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, and Kiplinger. I’ve gone deep in the weeds reporting on everything from health care legislation to student loan repayment to taxes and all the fun financial stuff in-between. Service journalism and writing are my two great loves, which makes writing and editing The Purse my ideal job.

I live in the Bronx with my husband Chris and our cat, Sofia (aka The Loaf). I occasionally publish my own newsletter, and I am always looking for new reading recs.
